Category: Study Data Requests

If you can help, the following list are towns that we need to gather for our study.

Contact me if you have any questions about how to submit the town pistol permit application paperwork.  I’m at just about all the CCDL events, meetings and they can be scanned and emailed or snail mailed.

Thanx,

Jonathan

beacon falls i have their sheet from a few years ago I’m sure its the same as now. They want letters of reference preferably from town residents. they also go to your neighbors house and ask them questions about you and till them they are there because of a pistol permit. I know this because my neighbor told me when I got mine and the cops came to my house to ask/tell about another neighbor across the street. time wise it took I think between 10-12 weeks for return. no problems with town selectman. If you have an address i can send this to please give it to me and I will send it out. hope this helps

Not on the list, but I just submitted my application in Bloomfield. It was overall a pleasant experience. They did ask for a utility bill to establish residency, though. Also, there was an additional $70 fee required for the Town of Bloomfield on top of the $70, $50, and $19.25 for the DPS. I don’t know if the state law lets towns charge processing fees, but I assume that’s what that was for. I’ll pass on any updates.

Guilford was a very straight forward process. The usual DPS fees but no unreasonable requirements. The officer performing the fingerprinting asked us a few questions as to why we were seeking permits but only out of curiosity as they had been flooded with permit requests at the time. I have heard that Groton and the towns/villages under their protection (e.g. Mystic) can take a very long time to get a permit. The process with Guilford PD and DPS took only about a month.

I have submitted my application to the town of Ansonia on Thursday October 29. It was cut and dry with no “extra” requirements. I will keep posted the time in which I am approved or denied. Now, just waiting…………….. anxious

      Ansonia follow-up…

9 weeks five days. Again, no extra requirements outside of state mandate. Called at 6 weeks to just make sure our cashiers check (no way of knowing if it cleared) was accounted for. Was told to expect if after the new year. I have no complaints. Thanks Ansonia PD. I read alot of horror stories out there on wait times 🙁

I got my permit from Bloomfield a couple weeks ago. It took about 6 weeks from the time I submitted it. Despite requiring a utility bill and making me submit the $70 money order that’s supposed to go to DPS once I have my temp permit, I had little problems. They were pretty helpful and warm at the Bloomfield PD.

I did have an issue with the way I was a little hassled for getting a permit at DPS when I went to finalize my permit. Not by the staff in the permits office, but by the security person at the front. He hassled me a little about giving up my permit. He also hassled me because I had a (very tiny) pocket knife. I know knives aren’t allowed, but I overlooked the one on my keys. He didn’t see it either, but I handed it to him (because I know better than to bring in anything not allowed just because I have crappy luck). He hassled me about having “dangerous” knives and what do I need it for? What do I need it for? It’s a tool! Besides, it’s a tiny pink Spectra Peck that lives on my keys. Hardly a dangerous weapon.

I applied for temporary state permit on Oct- 1- 2011 with the town of Avon Ct. I just got off the phone with the Avon police department Jan. 27- 2012 and was told that they had not received the fingerprint from the FBI and that they had received an email from the FBI last week informing them that the FBI was backed up from 16 to 18 weeks. Do you think this is true or are they just running me around? Thank you for your help.

I recently applied in Windsor,CT on January 29th and 9 days late lr I received a phone call at 8:30 AM saying that my temperary state permit is ready. I had no problems what so ever in my town, hassle free town for a pistol permit

  9. CM says

I have a copy of the New Milford requirements. After reading your website it seems they are in violation of 3. 1. Over charging. 2. Requiring more proof birth certificate/ passport. 3. Notary required on form.

Email me and I will send you a copy.
